Rainbow rice is gorgeous and colourful, and interesting to get the kids involved to make. This is a great idea for messy play, it can also be used for artwork with sticking and glueing creative crafts. If you love sensory play then this is a lovely concept.
If your little one is learning to form letters it’s also great fun to use this coloured rice in a tray for them to use their fingers to write the letter shape or numbers too.
My 3 kids enjoyed mixing the rice and we all kept checking to see if it had fully dried. It’s really simple to make.
How to make sensory rainbow dye rice:
You will need:
- 1 cup of rice per colour used
- 1 teaspoon of white vinegar per colour used
- approx 1/4 teaspoon of food colouring per
colour used (adjust if needed)
Mix all the ingredients in a bag or a plastic container with a lid (washed out between colours).
Spread the dyed rice on a paper towel and leave to dry overnight.
Filling and pouring containers and kitchen cutlery and utensils
Using it as a rainbow grass to play with animals, unicorns, horses and small dolls or anything else you can think of.
This rice keeps really well in an airtight container. We regularly get this out for letter forming or sensory play.
